Roberto Parrilla

Roberto Parrilla has been painting for over 20 years. His work is informed by varied, rich life experiences, foremost among them; an art rich home environment as a child and summers spent at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York City. As a youngster he was osmotically absorbing the work of artists as diverse as Claes Oldenburg, Cezanne, Edward Steichen as well as being influenced by the museum's permanent Design Collection and two films a day by such directors as Bergman, Fellini, Hitchcock, Truffaut and Eisenstein.

Moving from Puerto Rico to New York in the 1970's, he studied at the Brooklyn Museum School where he was exposed to the collection of period furniture, ceramics, glass and American art of the 18th, 19th and 20th century falling under the spell of artists such as Hopper, Eakins, Prendergast, Sloan and Marsh.

Much More than a regional Caribbean artist, Parrilla's work can be found in collections world wide.

After living in Switzerland in 1975 - 1976, he returns to Puerto Rico and takes up print making and painting. A two - time National Endowment grant recipient, he lives and paints in the historic old city of San Juan.
